Celebrations we plan for
In Taiwan the first year is marked in steps: the full-month celebration (滿月, often called 彌月), a drooling ceremony (收涎) a few months on, and the first birthday (周歲), sometimes with a 抓周 game. Some families host at home, others in a rented room, usually for 10 to 50 guests, though larger family gatherings are common.
This page is about the meal for the gathering. If you also want take-home boxes for guests, say so in your request and the team confirms what can be arranged. A decorated baby cake should come from a bakery you choose; tell us when it arrives and we leave space for it.
What we serve for a baby celebration
- Taiwanese comfort dishes: Sticky Rice with Chinese Sausage (臘味米糕), xiaolongbao, steamed pork buns and shrimp dumplings.
- Warm sesame oil and herbal soups that many older family members associate with this occasion: sesame oil mushroom soup and black chicken soup.
- Mild shared dishes: braised pork meatballs and other simple dishes children can eat.
- Desserts that are easy to share: milk pudding and cheesecake. Ask about the other desserts on the menu.
- Tell us about allergies, pregnancy or nursing diets and any foods the family avoids, and the team checks each dish with the kitchen.
Guest count and service level
- 10 to 20 guests at home: drop-off, with a few dishes on the table and soup in covered containers.
- 20 to 50 guests: setup of a buffet so grandparents can sit while others queue, with a table for the soup and the sweets.
- 50 to 100+ guests, or a formal family banquet: staffed service so the hosts, parents and baby are not clearing plates.
- Plan for babies and toddlers: leave a quiet corner, avoid placing hot dishes at floor level and keep the food table away from the play area.
Timing around a baby
Babies set the schedule. Give us a food-ready time that leaves room for a nap, a photo session and a possible delay. If the party is at home, mention the lift, parking and who will let the delivery in, so the parents do not have to leave the baby.
