A short gathering with a clear moment
Most farewell parties are built around one moment: a speech, a gift or a toast. Food should be ready before it and easy to eat during it. Finger food and a small buffet work better than plated courses, because people can talk, hold a drink and still eat.
Often the guest of honour is a colleague, so the party is organised by teammates on a lunch break or after work. Tell us the start time, how long the gathering lasts and who collects the delivery, so food is ready when the first people arrive.
What we serve for farewell and celebration parties
- Shared trays: a dim sum trio, XO seafood fried rice, mapo tofu and braised pork rice, familiar to a mixed team.
- Easy to eat standing: charcoal-grilled chicken skewers and a chef's sushi selection.
- A sweet table: tiramisu, cheesecake and macarons, and a cake from a bakery if you are bringing one.
- For a retirement tea in the afternoon, switch to tea snacks and sweets. Our afternoon tea page shows how.
Guest count and service level
- 10 to 20 guests, a lunch-break gathering: drop-off food on shared trays, ready to serve.
- 20 to 50 guests: buffet setup, so a table is ready before guests arrive and is collected afterwards.
- 50 to 100+ guests, or a retirement dinner for a senior colleague: staffed service, so the organising team can be with the guest of honour.
- Pick one person to receive the delivery and sign off, so the organisers do not have to leave the room.
Small touches that help
Ask for dish labels in English and Chinese if your team is mixed. Plan for a few vegetarian guests. Tell us if there are drinks, a cake or a projector so the table is placed where the room allows a clear sightline to the speaker.
